Even as they pressed forward with preparations for the next strike, the planned assault on the Adelaide Conference, they pursued a secondary objective: confirming rumors of an anti-Federation faction in Oenbelli, a group that had begun styling itself Mafty’s First Army. Though the situation is precarious, a decision was made nonetheless. They will proceed to Oenbelli, ostensibly to gather intelligence on the Kimberly Unit. On the eve of departure, Kelia sensed a dangerous shift in Hathaway\u2019s mental state. Alarmed by how unstable he seemed, she confronted him, challenging whether the operation should move forward at all. Hathaway refused to hear her. He closed himself off entirely, dismissed her without a word, and climbed into the Xi Gundam. Meanwhile, Kenneth was receiving reports concerning the abandoned Mafty base at Lodoicea. Though no actionable intelligence had surfaced to explain where Mafty had disappeared, he nevertheless issued orders to reinforce defenses in preparation for the Adelaide Conference. It was then that Hundley Yeoksan, head of the Criminal Police Organization, arrived to meet with him. Far removed from all of this, Gigi sat alone in the cottage Kenneth had provided. Her mind wandered toward Hathaway, already gone. She lingered on his absence for a time, turning it over in her thoughts. Then she resolved to accelerate her own plans.<\/p>\n

SECTOR 2<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sortieing toward Oenbelli with his mobile suits and the Galcezon, Hathaway was intercepted mid-route by mobile suits from the Kimberley Unit. The clash ended swiftly, with Mafty seizing control of the battlefield. Yet upon witnessing the devastation spread throughout the outskirts of Oenbelli, the wreckage of the Oenbelli forces scattered across the land, Hathaway was forced to confront, once again, the madness of the world as it now existed. Through torrential rain, Hathaway presses on toward Kimberley\u2019s hideout. There, he found unmistakable traces of torture inflicted upon prisoners by the Kimberley Unit, along with the lifeless remains of its victims. Driven to understand the reason behind such cruelty, he hauls Kimberley and the other Federation officers to the very floor where prisoners had been confined and subjects them to questioning. Later, as Hathaway deliberates over the fate of Kimberley and his subordinates, he is met by Fabio Rivera, commander of the Oenbelli forces. Upon learning that Mafty was led by someone so young, Fabio regards him with open contempt. Hathaway does not hold back, lambasting the Oenbelli forces for undermining Mafty’s efforts, starting with the hijacking incident aboard the Haunzen. Despite the tension, Fabio’s group does share one valuable detail: evidence of the Kimberley Unit’s massacre has already been transmitted to space, destined for media exposure. Yet despite this, the ideological positions of Mafty and the Oenbelli forces never aligned. The discussion ended in stalemate, with neither side yielding an inch.<\/p>\n

SECTOR 3<\/strong><\/p>\n

Thanks to Kenneth\u2019s arrangements, Gigi arrived alone in New Hong Kong and made her way to a private residence prepared by Count Boundenwooden. There, she found herself recalling the time she had spent with Hathaway. The following morning, carrying the scrap of paper on which Kenneth had written Hathaway\u2019s contact information, Gigi set out under the pretense of going for a run. She headed instead for a public telephone and placed a call to the Menado Botanical Observation Office, where she believed Hathaway to be. The person who answered was his instructor. Startled that Kenneth\u2019s information had been accurate, Gigi nonetheless tensed, acutely aware that she couldn\u2019t afford to speak carelessly. Mindful of the possibility of wiretapping, she still managed to leave a message for Hathaway. That same day, news reports caught her eye: a joint operation conducted by Kenneth\u2019s Circe Unit and the ManHunters, targeting illegal Earth residents. Yet how reliable the information was remained unclear. Feeling keenly that she now existed in a world cut off from both Hathaway and Kenneth, Gigi resolved to leave Count Boundenwooden behind, choosing a path that would allow her to see where the two of them were ultimately headed.<\/p>\n

SECTOR 4<\/strong><\/p>\n

As Mafty\u2019s forces advanced toward the Australian continent aboard the Valiant, they received an encrypted message from Gigi through their intelligence network. The contents confirmed that the conference location remained unchanged: Adelaide. Hathaway informed Wedge of the possibility that Fabio and his men had moved into Bynoe Harbour. At the same time, he predicted that Fabio\u2019s group, having intercepted communications, would likely conclude that the conference had instead been relocated to Guangzhou. Just as anticipated, Hathaway and his team reunited with Fabio at Bynoe. There, they revealed that the conference location had not changed, while proposing a scheme to deceive the Federation forces. Elsewhere, Kelia sensed that Hathaway\u2019s heart had drifted away from her. Resolving to leave Mafty once the current operation concluded, she made her decision. When Hathaway learned of it, the shock of losing her left him reeling. Yet with no other choice, he boarded the Xi Gundam, setting his course for the Heso Point. Around the same time, Kenneth, traveling aboard a transport aircraft over the Timor Sea, received confirmation that friendly forces had sunk a Mafty vessel. Gigi\u2019s earlier \u201cprophecy\u201d had seemingly come true. But Gigi herself was seized by a new wave of unease. As the aircraft approached Darwin Airport, she suddenly cried out, \u201cI don\u2019t want to get off\u2026 I hate this airport!\u201d The moment Kenneth ordered the landing aborted, an explosion thundered across the runway. Witnessing firsthand how Gigi had averted disaster, Kenneth\u2019s subordinates began to reassess her, this time with genuine goodwill.<\/p>\n

He went further still, urging Vice Minister Loewe to dispatch Bright Noa\u2019s unit to Earth as reinforcements. Meanwhile, from within the cockpit, Hathaway spotted heaps of burning debris. He realized they were the remains of Hala’s unit. Searching desperately for Rod, who should have been there, he found only a sea of flames stretching before him. Soon, the Xi Gundam reached the vicinity of the Heso Point. Hathaway offered words of comfort to Hendrix, who had narrowly survived, but Hendrix lamented his failure to save the others. Then came further grim news: Maximilian reported that the Valiant had been sunk. In the face of so many organizational losses, Hathaway told himself, as Mafty Navue Erin, that the existence of Kelia and Gigi are inconsequential by comparison. Yet the depth of his own desire and guilt made the thought unbearable. In Alice Springs, Gigi found herself unsettled by how people compared Kenneth\u2019s competence with Hathaway\u2019s improvised actions, treating her like some kind of oracle. Kenneth remarked that \u201cin the end, what people want most is status,\u201d prompting Gigi to think of Count Boundenwooden. At her request, a reconnaissance-in-force toward Ayers Rock was organized. Lane chafes openly at Kenneth’s dependence on Gigi’s “prophecies,” all while remaining alert to the prospect of Mafty lurking in the region.<\/p>\n

While the Kessaria closed the distance to Ayers Rock, Gigi felt a disturbance gathering somewhere past the horizon. Her earlier premonition, she knew now, with cold certainty, had been true. The air itself began to shift, quietly, unmistakably, toward battle. At the same time, Mafty finalized its sortie preparations. Encouraged by Fabio and the others, Hathaway launched the Xi Gundam. He loosed a volley from the beam rifle, a deliberate provocation meant to flush the enemy from hiding. The Circe Unit’s Gustav Karls answered without hesitation, and the battle erupted. The Xi Gundam tore through them in rapid succession, one mobile suit after another falling away, until only the Alyzeus remained standing in its path. Hathaway recognized the pilot at once: Lane Aim. Enraged that another of those damned “predictions” had come to pass, Lane threw himself into a savage offensive. His aggression, however, could not compensate for the gap in ability and he was gradually driven into a corner. In desperation, Lane jettisoned his shelf nozzles. The moment they separated, his machine’s profile shifted into something hauntingly familiar: the silhouette of the Nu Gundam, Amuro’s machine. The sight unlocked something in Hathaway. Char’s Rebellion. Quess, lost forever. The memories flooded upward, unstoppable. Lane ceased to exist for him then. As the Xi Gundam pressed the attack and the frame begins to liquefy beneath the beam saber’s fury, Gigi’s voice pierces through, wrenching Hathaway back to the present. Offering herself as a hostage, she leapt from the Xi Gundam\u2019s open palm into the cockpit, and was reunited with Hathaway once more.<\/p>\n
