It has been two centuries since mankind sought an outlet for its burgeoning population in space. Huge man-made colonies floated around the Earth, though the hearts and minds of those living in those colonies grew further and further apart. Such were the times. One stormy night, Affranchi Char, a young boy who grew up on an island in the South Seas, hears the dying words of his elder. “

\nON THE BEACH<\/strong><\/p>\nAffrachi Char, a young boy of 19 years old, lives peacefully amidst nature on a small island in the Pacific Ocean together with his foster parent Gaba Suu and his lover, Everly Key. Recently, something odd was happening to Affranchi’s body. He could hear a ticking sound resonating in his mind. One stormy night, Gaba Suu dies of natural causes, and with his dying breath, tells Affranchi, “You must go out into space<\/em>.” However, Everly absolutely forbids him from trying to venture out into outer space. Amidst their arguing, Affranchi discovers a huge object stretched out on the beach. The upper half of the body appeared to be humanoid and seemed to be a machine from a hundred years ago. \nSEPARATE WAYS<\/strong><\/p>\nEverly still tries to prevent Affranchi from leaving, despite him trying to persuade her. The two begin their newlywed life together, now without Gaba Suu. The next stormy day after Gaba’s passing, Affranchi slips away, leaving the the island and Everly. Terrified and along, he crosses a stormy sea alone in a canoe. After the storm passes, he arrives at an island port, taking in a meal at a bar. There, he becomes involved with a middle-aged man and who starts talking about the meaning of the name “Affranchi Char.”<\/p>\n

\nLOREKEEPER<\/strong><\/p>\nThe middle-aged man, aptly named Truth Stronger, tells Affranchi the meaning behind his name: freed Char. That evening, with nowhere else for him to go, Affranchi stays at Truth’s house. As he’s getting settled in his room, Truth begins to talk with him about racial issues and the subconscious. The following day, Affranchi learns that there’s no scheduled ship to Hong Kong, and instead of asking the man for him to stay another night, he spends the entire day cleaning his room. That evening, the two have the same conversation. The next morning when Affranchi goes to the pier to catch his flight, he finds Everly. When Truth sees her, he suddenly slaps her.<\/p>\n

\nSEA JACK<\/strong><\/p>\nTruth’s actions stemmed from prejudices within him. Unable to forgive him, Affranchi parts ways with him, even making Everly go back to the island. As he relaxes on his way to Hong Kong, pirates attack the ship and they’ve somehow managed to take Everly hostage. Moreover, they seem to know an awful lot about Affranchi. Left with no alternative, he complies with them. Though in the briefest of opportunities, he successfully managages to take down the mean. After the chaos, Affranchi is welcomed as a VIP by the ship’s captain and he an Everly are once again alone together.<\/p>\n

\nARSON<\/strong><\/p>\nLate that afternoon, Affranchi sets off to meet with Mikhail Kinsey and other men to suss out what the pirates were up to. He finds out they were sent at the request of Truth Stranger and that their ultimate goal is to blow up the shuttle launch pad. He also discovers they’re members of an anti-Earth Federation organization. Upon hearing this, Affranchi decides to cooperate with them and sets fire to the cargo hold, successfully slipping away amidst the confusion. That evening, Affranchi and Everly arrive in Hong Kong and a woman appears before them. “We’ve been waiting for you. \nTHE LEGACY OF SIEG ZEON<\/strong><\/p>\nWith the two being whisked away through the streets of Hong Kong by the woman named Miranda Howe, they’re dropped off in front of an old half-abandoned building. Waiting for them there is a man named Baam Segen. As Baam and Affranchi talk, he learns that the island where he was born and raised is actually an artificially created paradise and how difficult it is to go up into space. He’s also taken to a back room where a humanoid machine, a man-machine, is revealed to him in all its grandeur. Shortly thereafter, Baam leaves the room uttering the words, “Sieg Zeon.”<\/p>\n

\nFAREWELL<\/strong><\/p>\nAffranchi is intrigued by the man-machine, draws closer to it and begins looking it over. His appearance makes Everly feel quite uneasy, and although she loves him dearly, she even considers killing him. Suddenly, several men infiltrate the building and Baam Segen goes down in a storm of gunfire. Sensing the danger, Affranchi flees the building with Everly in the man-machine. In the process, he unlocks another memory within him that allows him to wield the machine, which he shouldn’t have been able to do so in the first place. Several combat helicopters intercept him outside the building, but after shaking them off, he drops Everly off back at their island. He heads for the shuttle launch site to hijack a shuttle…<\/p>\n

\nWITH THE SEA AND LAND TO HIS BACK<\/strong><\/p>\nAs he’s struggling to capture a shuttle, Miranda steps in and the two are successful in hijacking it. The shuttle with the man-machine onboard rockets off toward Side 2. Despite the shock from escaping the atmosphere, the shuttle punches through the stratosphere and out into space. As they’re ascending, Affranchi has a myriad of thoughts cross his mind: those of Everly and one other. Once they’re out in space, Miranda orders the pilot to change course, taking them for the shoal zone that was formerly Side 4.<\/p>\n

\nINERTIAL FLIGHT<\/strong><\/p>\nA moment of silence passes in the shuttle as it entered inertial flight. Just then, the shuttle shutters violently after being struck by a small rock. Having checked for damage, Miranda was unfazed by it and instructs the pilots to input their final destination point, causing the shuttle to make a final course correction. After yet another moment of silence, their radar picks up a signature heading towards them: it was a spaceship coming to welcome Affranchi and the others. As he meets with the crew of the ship, he begins to feel uncomfortable around them, particular with the deference they’re showing him, calling him “Char Aznable.”<\/p>\n

\nKRISHNA PANDANT<\/strong><\/p>\nOn board the Spasias, Miranda informs Affranchi that he’s Char Aznable himself. Despite the confusion, he tries to calmly accept his fate. Just then, an alluring young girl named Krishna Pandant appears to tell them all that it’s time to eat. As they move to the mess hall, he meets more of the crew, including Captain Madras and his second-in-command, Michel. Over the course of their meal, Affranchi and the others blend in with one another, despite only having met for the first time and eventually reach Side 2. Miranda informs Affranchi, who is only seeing the space colonies for the first time, that he’ll be smuggled into one.<\/p>\n

\nDARK MONOLOGUE<\/strong><\/p>\nClad in a normal suit, Affranchi ventures outside the Spasias along with Miranda and Krishna where he experiences outer space for the first time. He’s captivated by the frenetic starlight. Affranchi and Miranda try smuggling themselves into the space colony Hellas by hiding in a container load of dummy materials that Krishna had arranged. Together in the darkness for a lengthy period, the two have a conversation about Miranda’s past and the current state of colonial society, as if to escape the darkness. Affranchi still didn’t have what he called a true sense of reality.<\/p>\n
