The personal hover bike known by the name Wappa was developed by the Principality of Zeon Forces and was widely used during the One Year War primarily for recon and reporting duties. The power source doesn’t utilize an internal-combustion engine but rather a direct drive system via a controllable electric motor. High mobility is achieved by indivdually controlling two sets of motor outputs connected by fans in the front and rear. With the motor developed for this Wappa, it’s able to achieve altitude quickly given the extreme output compared to it’s size. The power source comes from four powerpacks are laid out along the bottom of the machine.
While most of the Wappa’s control is automated, even an inexperienced person is able to master the controls of it with just a few hours of practice. The standard equipment armament is a Mazra MG74/s machine gun suspended from a boom. Furthermore, due to the simple structure of the machine, it’s rather easy to refit it, thus allowing for variations with various equipment loadouts.
After the war, the Earth Federation Forces confiscated the machines and released them to the civilians. A few of them appeared on the market boasting excellent maneuverability and maintenance. They also became useful for motor sports, thus giving birth to a new hobby: a hover bike market. And so it became that the term “Wappa” didn’t merely mean a particular model, but a synonym for the hover bike.
