THE EARTH FEDERATION FORCES RISE! THE LEAGUE MILITAIRE BEGINS THEIR COUNTERATTACK!

Approximately a century and a half had passed since the beginning of human space colonization when the Zanscare Empire emerged in the Amelia colony on Side 2, located in the direction of the Moon’s orbit. The Zanscare Empire, under the banner of “Mariaism” and its claim to “cherish the nurturing entity,” paradoxically established a new hegemony through ruthless executions by guillotine and strict authoritarian rule.

Rebelling against the Earth Federation, the Zanscare Empire seceded and initiated military action to unify Side 2.

The military arm of the Zanscare Empire, known as “BESPA,” originated from an organization called the “Ballistic Equipment & Space Patrol Armory” located on Side 2. The name BESPA was derived from the organization’s initials and served as the basis for developing new mobile suits conducted within its facilities. BESPA’s ability to rapidly produce numerous high-performance mobile suits was due to utilizing these existing facilities and personnel.

In the year U.C.0153, BESPA’s experimental mobile suit unit, known as the “Yellow Jackets,” launched an invasion of the Earth in parallel with their campaign to conquer Side 2, successfully capturing the city of Largane in Eastern Europe. At the time, the Earth Federation Forces were weakened and unable to mount any effective countermeasures against this operation.

In response to this situation, several years prior, the League Militaire (Holy Military Alliance) was formed around the time of the Zanscare Empire’s founding and carried out a resistance struggle. They engaged in guerrilla warfare, rising up to confront BESPA’s invasion of Earth and even countering BESPA’s operations in space.

As the symbol of the resistance movement, League Militaire developed the V Gundam and mass-produced other mobile suits like the Gun-EZ, launching guerrilla attacks against BESPA primarily in Europe. The ground battles ranging from Largane to Uwig and Arti Gibraltar saw both sides engage in a back-and-forth struggle. However, these engagements remained limited in scale, with sporadic combat between small units rather than large-scale total war. Despite suffering heavy casualties in their battles against BESPA, a formal army, the League Militaire was indeed making significant gains.

During this era, the “white mobile suit” of the Gundam type was legendary and symbolized resistance. The V Gundam was also in the process of creating a new legend as the frontlines expanded from Arti Gibraltar, and BESPA overwhelmed League Militaire with its forces. With the introduction of new weapons deployed by BESPA, such as the Sugan fleet commanded by Mutterma Sugan–a close ally of the de facto founder of the Zanscare Empire, Fonse Kagatie–and the massive fortress Keilas Guilie targeting and bombarding Earth from orbit, and the Motrad fleet ravaging the Earth, intensified the fierceness of the battle. Furthermore, the continuous development of new mobile suits and mobile armor at an astonishing pace added to the intensity.

On the League Militaire side, they developed an enhanced version of the V Gundam, the V2 Gundam, in an attempt to counter BESPA. Additionally, the Earth Federation Forces, which had previously observed the resistance movement and participated individually with their own judgments, finally joined the fight in a full-scale manner. This decision was not made by central bureaucrats but a strategic action by General Mubarak Stern, the commander of the Earth Federation Forces’ space fleet, who was deeply impressed by League Militaire’s activities and its leader, Gin Gehennam. Many ships and mobile suits, including the flagship Jeanne d’Arc of the Earth Federation Forces’ space fleet, entered the battle against the Zanscare Empire.

Meanwhile, the Zanscare Empire secretly developed and built the ultimate weapon, the Angel Halo. This enormous psycommu fortress had the function of eradicating human combativeness and the will to fight. Those exposed to the waves emitted by this fortress experienced a regression phenomenon, rendering them incapable of doing anything, much like infants. It was no longer just a weapon but a colossal brainwashing device aimed at humanity’s destruction.

Upon learning of the enemy’s ultimate weapon, the combined fleet of League Militaire and the Earth Federation Forces advanced toward the battlefield under the wings of light created by the V2 Gundam, heading for the final confrontation.

BRIEF HISTORY OF THE ZOLLIDIA’S DEVELOPMENT

ZOLOAT EARLY PRODUCTION TYPE

During the initial mass production phase of the Zoloat by BESPA, it lacked fixed armaments and relied on a beam rifle and shield for combat. The first rollout featured a predominantly black color scheme, which was later changed to a slightly darker shade of red. Once fixed armaments were added, the standard became a combination of red and ivory. This type of Zoloat was the most widely produced and manufactured in various colonies and lunar facilities.

Furthermore, even after the deployment of successor models, production of this unit continued. Some variants received weapon enhancements like the beam string, and there were also units equipped with psycommu systems that Torri Ares squad used for monitoring the Angel Halo.

It’s worth noting that after completing the initial practical tests, the older type without fixed armaments was limited to use within colonies once engagement with the Side 2 Allied Fleet became imminent.

■ CARME TEAM SUITS
The suits deployed to the unit, which mainly served defensive duties around Side 2, are distinguished by their shades of green. These units were initially engaged in combat against the Side 2 Allied Fleet, resulting in frequent damage to the suits. As a result, a gradual transition to new models like the Shy-Tarn was undertaken.

■ THEBES TEAM SUITS
This special operations unit was composed of ace pilots from the early stages of the war, tasked with everything from reconnaissance to sabotage and surprise attacks. The suits assigned to this unit are coated with anti-radar material and painted in a dark blue low-visibility camouflage. Given the unique nature of their missions, back-mounted beam cannons and the like became standard equipment fairly early on.

■ ZMT-S06G ZOLO-ROTOR
BESPA’s development of ground-use mobile suits began with this suit. Based on the Zoloat’s frame, it equipped the newly developed beam rotor, and everything from the alignment of various parts across the frame to the placement of weaponry was considered. This could be seen as the direct prototype of the Zolo and Tomliat models.

■ ZM-S06G ZOLLIDIA
This is a ground-adapted version of the Zoloat. Weaponry designed for space combat, like the beam strings were removed, and the left shoulder was reverted to the initial type. In consideration of maintenance and dust prevention, all nozzles across the unit were sealed. While its basic structure is unchanged from the Zoloat, some of the space-specific equipment was removed and replaced with a larger generator output, significantly enhancing its maneuverability compared to the original Zoloat. The utilization of the support mecha Einerad, which was developed for Gedlav use, was considered to counter attacks from the sides, which is a weak point of the Einerad. As a result, a high-output beam shield was equipped.

■ ZM-S06GD ZOLLIDIA DESERT
This variant is essentially the same as the Zollidia but is equipped with sand-resistant equipment on all joints and intakes. In terms of weaponry, it is equipped to handle more close-combat situations. It has a shield on the right shoulder and spikes added to both knees, with the left shoulder spike being sharper. A rod antenna has been added to the back of the head to enhance communication capabilities. This model was intended for deployment in areas such as the Middle East, West Asia, Africa, and similar regions.

BESPA PROTOTYPE MOBILE SUITS

■ GODZORLA
The Godzorla is a prototype mobile suit developed by BESPA for exclusive use under gravity during their invasion of Earth. The trials carried out with this unit aimed to examine various problems that became apparent with the deployment of the Zolo on Earth.

Firstly, improvements were made to the operational efficiency and energy conservation of the beam rotor, and new sensors were installed. The beam rotor equipped on the Zolo had four beam-emitting terminals, and it was considered whether reducing this to three terminals would still be practical with the same energy consumption unit. The Trinity-type beam rotor proved to be fully operational without significant issues and was confirmed to be suitable for practical combat deployment. These technologies further evolved, enhancing the output of the beam generator and reducing the number of generators required for flight. This was later incorporated into the Domuttlia, a derivative of the Tomliat, and was even capable of operating with a beam rotor with just two emission terminals.

■ MEMEDORZA
One issue that arose with the deployment of BESPA’s ground-based mobile suits was the reduced freedom of the arm parts where the beam rotor was installed. In actual combat situations, mobile suits were not only maneuvering with the mobility of the beam rotor but also using the apogee motors located all over the suit. However, this made flexible response to combat difficult, so there was a demand for the development of “beam rotor/beam shield” as fixed armament that could be used regardless of the situation.

Around this time, it was a well-known fact that reconsideration was being made of where to place the beam shield on mobile suits for space combat. During the initial development of the beam rotor, extensive considerations were made regarding where to place the base of the rotor. In the end, units such as the Zolo and Tomliat adopted a method of changing the installation location between cruising mode and mobile suit mode.

The Memmedorza was a suit that adopted the twin-beam rotor developed in this context. Of course, to accompany other maneuvers, it was equipped with thermonuclear jets in its legs, greatly enhancing its mobility.

■ DEVELOPMENT OF THE SHOKEW
The Shokew is a prototype general-purpose high-performance mobile suit that was developed concurrently with BESPA’s Earth invasion operation.

Unlike the Zolo, this suit was not assembled from anti-ground weaponry but was a suit specifically designed for mobile suit combat from the very beginning. Therefore, it’s suited for hand-to-hand or close-range combat, and integrated weaponry was minimized as much as possible with a primary focus on improving mobility during its development. After undergoing operational tests in space, it was transferred to the Largane base, a bridgehead for the pacification of the European region on Earth. During the gravity tests, Lieutenant Chronocle Asher, the younger brother of Queen Maria Pure Armonia, acted as the test pilot. However, it ended up being hijacked during a fight with a small fighter of the League Militaire.

This incident was a disastrous embarrassment for the Yellowjackets, who were conducting the mobile suit test, but some high-ranking officials in BESPA, overseeing the troop usage, saw this as proof of the machine’s superior operability. According to reports, the Shokew was commandeered by a 13-14-year-old child, and given the current situation where even student mobilization is being implemented in their homeland, voices advocating for the immediate mass production of Shokew to strengthen their forces grew louder.

The data of this machine was sent to Keilas Guilie and the Zanscare homeland immediately after recovery and was incorporated into the subsequent development plan of BESPA’s mobile suits.

■ RIG SHOKEW
Based on the test results of Shokew, the Rig Shokew was developed to further enhance combat capabilities while maintaining the same superior operability. There were no changes to the basic design for space and ground use, but additional equipment modifications allowed it to adapt to different deployment environments.

During the time the Shokew was developed, the only ground equipment envisioned was the beam rotors for mobility and defense. However, there were voices within BESPA pointing out the limited maneuverability of the beam rotor. As a result, the Einerad, which integrated offense and defense, was developed, completely changing the tactics employed by BESPA’s ground mobile suits. The Einerad, with its massive wheel, had better mobility and cross-country capabilities than ordinary vehicles and could even use its body as a weapon.

Originally, the Rig Shokew was planned to be equipped with a beam rotor as its standard equipment for use under Earth’s gravity. However, due to the enhancement provided by the Einerad, the deployment of the beam rotor was sometimes omitted depending on the deployment location. However, most of these operational plans were determined just before or after the start of mass production, which made Rig Shokew a very flexible machine with various variations among BESPA’s mobile suits.

■ GRASSHOPPER SQUAD
(Depicted is beam rotor equipped model) The Rig Shokew, operable both in space and under gravity, began to be deployed in the Earth Sphere as mass production progressed. The group deployed specifically for the Yellow Jackets was given a color scheme with green as its primary color. The sight of these machines attacking all at once was said to be as terrifying as a massive migration of locusts, leaving nothing behind in their wake, and was soon became known as the Grasshopper Squad. All the Rig Shokew deployed in the Earth Sphere were equipped with beam rotors as standard.

■ RIG SHOKEW FOR THE IMPERIAL GUARD DIVISION
The effectiveness of the Rig Shokew was proven in actual combat. As mentioned earlier, this suit was developed with a focus on close-quarters and melee, largely because BESPA’s leaders felt the need to defend the capital. The Zanscare Empire is located within Side 2, yet they don’t have all of Side 2 under their control. The situation of having to fight the combined fleet of Side 2 while invading Earth naturally means that they have to consider the need for homeland defense. The Rig Shokew was originally developed for such missions, but there was another specialized unit intended for special operations. This unit was the Rig Shokew for the Imperial Guard Division. This suit is characterized by the fact that it is equipped with a physical shield and a beam whip and is part of the unit directly attached to the giant psycommu fortress, Angel Halo, which carries Queen Maria.

The beam shield has the drawback of being easily detected by enemy machines in space. In the case of the Imperial Guard’s suit, it is expected to protect personnel and senior officials, so they refrained from equipping the beam shield, which could become a target of the enemy. To avoid dead weight, they equipped a solid shield with the function of a support system equipped with an apogee motor and a beam gun. Also, the beam rifle has a special armament so that it does not create so-called stray bullets that may damage facilities such as colonies. This machine was also deployed to escort personnel in the spherical colony Blue 3, which transports psychickers needed to operate the device, in addition to the protection of Angel Halo itself.

■ CONTIO
Developed as the successor to Zoloat, the Contio is a space-use mobile suit. Its weaponry has undergone further enhancements, incorporating state-of-the-art armaments throughout.

Its shoulders come equipped with shot claws, capable of producing massive beam sabers or beam cutters, turning the entire unit into a wired attack terminal. This allows it to launch full-range attacks akin to those of Newtype-exclusive suits. Additionally, three powerful beam cannons are equipped in its chest, necessitating the cockpit hatch to be installed on its back. What is noteworthy about this unit is that the prototypes were directly deployed in combat, resulting in two slightly different variants. One variant underwent experimental installation of beam shields, which were planned to be equipped on the next-generation units. This technology involved integrating beam shield generators into the manipulator base (wrist), enabling simultaneous offense and defense.

Ideally, this would have become standard equipment in line with the mass production of this machine, but the production of this unit did not keep up. As a consequence, the generator was hastily replaced with a Zoloat-type generator and equipped as such.

■ SHY-TARN
The Shy-tarn was developed in anticipation of the strategic need for capital defense. It is a tactical intercept-type unit, sporting robust armor and eight potent beam cannons installed throughout. For the standards of its time, the suit is significantly large, yet its main mission is not close combat with enemy mobile suits but interception. Sacrifices were made in terms of endurance and other factors. Its capabilities befit a mobile artillery platform, boasting exceptional defense and firepower said to rival battleships.

Additionally, with space battles around colonies in mind, powerful thrusters, and apogee motors are equipped in the rear and various other parts of the suit, endowing it with an unexpected level of agility that belies its appearance.

■ IMPERIAL GUARD DIVISION EXCLUSIVE UNIT
This machine, essentially a modified mass-production unit, was primarily used for ceremonial purposes upon deployment. To begin with, the shoulder-mounted beam cannons were replaced with double-barreled versions, and the chest beam gun was replaced with a long-barrel version for more precise shooting. Moreover, anticipating combat within colonies, it is armed with a long spear-axe to avoid detonating enemy suits. This suit is adorned with engravings throughout, demonstrating its grandeur as it served in Queen Maria’s grace ceremony and at the ceremony of the audience during fleet departure.

■ JAVELIN
The RGM-119 Jamesgun was developed based on the RGM-109 Heavygun with the goal of simplifying maintenance without compromising performance. During its development, a proposal was made to concurrently develop a high-output space variant using the same frame, which resulted in the Javelin.

The Javelin can be considered slightly more advanced than the previously developed Jamesgun, but as of U.C.0153, it cannot avoid the classification of an outdated mobile suit. However, the incorporation of the shot lancer, utilized by Crossbone Vanguard during its development phase, was a groundbreaking addition.

■ PROTOTYPE TYPE
In the midst of development, a decision was made to transform a completed Jamesgun into a unit for gathering data on space-use mobile suits. The Jamesgun’s frame was outfitted with prototype parts for the Javelin and adjusted accordingly. Initially, the external color was canary yellow, but once the Javelin was officially approved, the RGM-122 number was noted on the shoulder.

■ EARLY TYPE
Upon official approval, the Javelin was scheduled for mass production via Anaheim Electronic’s production line, initially sharing the line with the Jamesgun. Models produced during this time utilized parts shared with the Jamesgun. It was during this time that the Javelin acquired its distinctive fixed armament, which also became the origin of its name.

■ MASS PRODUCTION TYPE
Eventually, as the Jamesgun’s production came to an end, the mass-produced general-purpose mobile suits shifted to exclusively produce Javelin. At this stage, all parts assembled were specifically for the Javelin, and some design adjustments were made. However, production lines varied, with differences such as the presence or absence of the waist-side box and sensor eye cover.

■ ZAGLEN SQUAD
A unit stationed at Side 1. Considering the reflection of light in colony space, it’s painted in a somewhat dark emerald green.

■ SUITS ATTACHED TO THE SPACE FLEET
Belonging to the Space Fleet, these units inherit the red and white coloring tradition of the Earth Federation’s GM mobile suits. There was a period when the ground-based Jamesgun was temporarily converted and deployed with space equipment.

■ TILCOD SQUAD
A special force unit specializing in anti-ship warfare. The large unit on the back cannot be detached. It fires a missile-type large lance at high speed, penetrating enemy ship armor, making it highly destructive. Its color is yellow-green.

■ JAVELIN CANNON
A model produced in limited numbers during the late mass production phase. The Javelin unit on the back is replaced with a beam cannon, with energy supplied from the backpack. However, the Javelin is originally a general-purpose type and does not carry the necessary energy for constant firing, its attack capability is limited, and its performance is not fully utilized. Incidentally, the ones deployed to the Zaglen Squad, which unofficially participated in the League Militaire, are painted in red, while those deployed to the Tilcod Squad are painted in dark blue.

■ V2 GUNDAM
The V2 Gundam is a state-of-the-art mobile suit developed as a symbol of the League Militaire, with the assumption of incorporating the Minovsky Drive unit. Initially, the Minovsky Drive was intended to be an enhancement for the V1 model. However, it soon became apparent that the V1 chassis couldn’t withstand the Drive’s specifications, leading to an urgent need for an entire redesign. In that sense, it’s no exaggeration to say this mobile suit is a completely different beast from the V1. In essence, it’s the strongest mobile suit ever constructed – a creation based on the V Gundam’s blueprint yet surpassing it with the addition of new capabilities.

■ MINOVSKY DRIVE
The dual Minovsky Drive Units equipped on the V2 Gundam were created using technology that surpasses the conventional Minovsky physics applications for hovering and maneuvering systems.

The conventional Minovsky Craft and Minovsky Flight technologies primarily relied on the formation of a cubic lattice using Minovsky particles to counteract the suit’s weight. In other words, the mobile suit simply rested on a framework assembled around it. This was not significantly different from what was used in large-scale ships. However, the Minovsky Drive units on the V2 Gundam were fundamentally distinct from this principle. The operating principle of the Minovsky Drive involves generating a field within the unit and gaining repulsive force in any desired direction. In theory, if operational without issues, acceleration up to sub-light speed is possible. The specs also suggest that it can maneuver at a maximum of 20Gs. Wing-shaped beams emanate from the drive unit, possessing similar capabilities to a beam saber and reputedly forming beam blades stretching for kilometers at maximum output.

■ V2 ASSAULT
The V2 Assault Gundam is an armored enhancement version developed with the aim of further augmenting the V2’s capabilities.

Even with the elevated basic specs of the V2, additional equipment boosting the armor and weaponry was contemplated, envisioning a decisive battle with the Zanscare Empire. Essentially, this equipment includes the functions of the previously developed mega beam shield in the extra armor and further includes an I-field generator, all aimed at improving overall defensive capabilities. These enhancements are effective against beam attacks from medium to long distances, and due to the use of regular hardpoints for attachment, there have been reported instances of damage and destruction during close-quarters combat. However, the VSBR equipped on the waist, effective as a medium-range support weapon, expanding the tactical versatility that the V2 Gundam can achieve and bringing immeasurable benefits to the League Militaire’s strategy.

■ V2 BUSTER
The additional units equipped on the V2 Buster consist mainly of a long-range support beam cannon and spray beam pods, also including micro missile pods, structurally enhancing the flexibility of the Minovsky Drive Unit and contribute to an overall improvement in mobility. This weaponry was primarily developed for assaulting enemy bases but was designed with the consideration of use in conjunction with Assault’s replacement parts, with attention to avoiding overlap in attachment points. Therefore, it’s possible to equip both sets of armaments, and this version is colloquially known as the V2 Assault Buster Gundam.
