Vol.21-A AMX-011G ZAKU III/AMX-009G DOM III
In the wake of their defeat in the One Year War, the Kycilia faction of the defeated Principality of Zeon established an independent force on Mars. While they maintained control over the red planet through the early U.C.0080s, they were ultimately forced underground following their defeat by Re-Zeon forces led by Alicia, who commanded the remnants of the Titans. Though reduced to guerrilla operations thereafter, they seized upon the completion of the Inle as an opportunity to reclaim Martian supremacy, participating in operations to capture the installation.
Their cooperative relationship with the separate Axis Zeon remnant faction is evidenced by shared mobile suit designs between the forces. The rapid military expansion of Axis and their subsequent return to Earth trajectory suggests substantial industrial support from Martian manufacturing facilities.
The Mars Independent Zeon Forces’ primary mass-production mobile suit. Developed as the legitimate successor to the MS-06 Zaku II, virtually synonymous with the former Zeon Principality forces, the AMX-011 Zaku III was adapted for terrestrial warfare on Mars, stripped of unnecessary space-combat equipment due to Mars’ gravity well. Production was carried out in Martian facilities. The Zaku III’s original concept of mission-specific equipment modularity made such environmental adaptations straightforward. Notably, its silhouette was deliberately designed to more closely resemble the legendary MS-06 Zaku, serving to instill and amplify Zeon ideology among inexperienced recruits. It’s historically significant that their adversaries, the Re-Zeon forces, primarily deployed the RMS-106 Hi-Zack, a Federation-developed successor sharing common ancestry with the MS-06. This parallel development path perfectly symbolizes the distinct military and ideological foundations of both organizations.
A heavy mobile suit designed for localized warfare, reserved for Mars Independent Zeon Forces’ veteran pilots. This machine represents a Martian ground warfare adaptation of the AMX-009 Dreissen, similarly stripped of space-combat systems like its Zaku III contemporary. The shoulder-mounted thrusters were replaced with massive boosters optimized for ground mobility. The bilateral hover propulsion units mounted on the back remain identical to those on the Zaku III. The relationship between this unit and the Dreissen mirrors that of the classic MS-09 Dom and MS-09R Rick Dom, from another perspective, the Dreissen could be considered this unit with additional space warfare capabilities. True to their claim as legitimate heirs to Zeon’s legacy, Zeon Mars designated this machine as the Dom III (Drei), positioning it in the proud lineage of Dom-series mobile suits following the Rick Dom II (Zwei). Veteran pilots frequently equipped their units with heavy weaponry reminiscent of their former Dom units’ combat doctrine. Following their retreat underground, Chester Fleet’s entire complement received desert camouflage repainting to enhance concealment during ground-based guerrilla operations.
