In the 1990s, Japanese animation began to be recognized as an appealing cultural phenomenon by people from other countries, and the term “Japanimation” started to gain popularity overseas. Eventually, Japanese anime became known as a proud cultural export, referred to as “Cool Japan” and other similar terms.
