This two volume series is illustrated by Mizuho Takayama and was serialized in Gundam Ace from 2009 to 2010. Prior to this, Takayama had been serializing Gundam comics in Kodansha’s Comic BonBon, making this their first Gundam Ace serialization. In this work, the silver wolf from the short story The Battlefield in the Far East, published in the Comic BonBon special issue, makes an appearance, as well as the Blue Destiny Unit 1 from Mobile Suit Gundam Side Story: The Blue Destiny. The work is thus a crossover with Takayama’s previous works.

However, the final chapter of the series ended up being, in effect, a cancellation, and the story was largely left unresolved. Given that Takayama had made a name with their Gundam series in Kodansha, their eagerly awaited participation in Gundam Ace garnered a lot of expectations from readers. Consequently, when the series was canceled, speculation arose that there might be some hidden reason other than the unpopularity reflected in the reader surveys. (The author’s tweets hint at some issue with the editorial department at the time of termination.) Incidentally, the provisional title announced at the time of serialization start was “Mobile Suit Gundam: Zeon MS Boys Hit-and-Run Specialists.”

In October U.C. 0079, Corporal Kurt and Sergeant Novikov volunteered for the Principality of Zeon forces and were assigned to serve as mobile suit pilots at a base nestled in the heart of the Eurasian continent. However, they find themselves, due to a bureaucratic mix-up, not helming a battle-ready mobile suit but a Zaku Tank meant for construction work.

A month into their tenure, while employed in road construction with their Zaku Tank, they are caught up in a hasty retreat spurred by the Earth Federation’s Operation Odessa. Despite taking the brunt of an attack from a Federation mobile suit squadron, they find respite in the arms of the ‘Silver Wolf of Mongolia,’ or Lieutenant Boldvoyal’s unit, who escorts them to safety. Their sanctuary, a guerrilla camp hidden amongst the valleys, harbors a shocking revelation the following day. In front of all, the ‘Silver Wolf’ announces his decision to ‘abandon Zeon.’ Kurt rebels against this notion and attempts a nocturnal escape, only to be apprehended and returned.

The ensuing day brings an attack on the camp from a mobile suit squadron led by Lieutenant Tucker of the Federation Forces. Their objective: reclaiming Astrid, known to them as Salan, the daughter of Side 6’s Prime Minister and their cherished guerrilla captive. Armed with their Zaku Tank, Kurt and his comrades manage to whisk Salan away and rendezvous with the Brauer unit later that night. They learn of the ‘Silver Wolf’s’ self-sacrificial attempt to take the enemy with him, only when they cross paths with Tucker’s squadron. Against all odds, their ‘Silver Wolf’s’ Zaku appears, and with Kurt at its helm, it fends off Tucker’s unit. Their goal now: California Base.

Once at the California Base, Kurt impersonates the ‘Silver Wolf’ to protect Saran, while she adopts his persona. By December, Kurt, now tasked with the defense of the North American continent’s northwest, shines under his new identity, rivaling the ‘Silver Wolf’ himself. Despite a defeat at the hands of the Federation’s mobile suit, known as ‘the Azure Grim Reaper,’ they manage to triumph against Tucker’s squadron and the indiscriminate bombing of Commander Mallory. As they defend the mass driver, aiming to send as many of their kin back to space as possible, they stand resolute against the ‘Azure Grim Reaper’ in their Zaku Tank once again.

0079.11.10: Kurt and Alexei are taken to a guerrilla camp hidden in a valley. Kurt attempts to fleet at night only to be apprehended and returned.
0079.11.11: A Federation Forces unit led by David Tucker wipes out straggler Zeon Forces near Volgograd. Andrew Mallory from the Intelligence Bureau shows up to recruit him for their operation to return Side 6’s Prime Minister, Rank Kiprodon’s daughter, Astrid. Later that same day, the boys MS-06V Zaku Tank is outfitted with a Zaku Cannon in the Caucasus mountains.
0079.11.30: In the early morning hours, the Zeon’s assault on Jaburo begins. That same day, somewhere in central North America, a Zeon outpost comes under attack by the Blue Destiny Unit 1.
0079.12.04: A Zeon missile base in the northwestern part of North America comes under attack by the Blue Destiny Unit 1.
0079.12.13: The Federation Forces completely surround the California Base.
