PSYCHO-FRAME SYSTEM

The Newtype enabled control system, known as the psycommu, saw completion in the form of the psycho-frame system of this era. What kind of system can even generate physical effects?

THE FINAL FORM OF PSYCOMMU WEAPONRY

　A psycommu is a system that synchronizes the thoughts and control system of a Newtype pilot by replacing a Newtype’s psycho abilities with hardware. In principle, control is impossible except for those with Newtype abilities. Although artificial Newtype called “Cyber-Newtype” were later created, it was still impossible to control for extended periods of time, and it was extremely burdensome on the pilot.

　It wasn’t until during the Second Neo Zeon War that the psycommu was finally perfected.

　The problem with the psycommu up until now lie with the small-scale of the hardware that transferred the pilot’s thoughts. Although computer technology had reached its limitations, the task of synchronizing thoughts still overloaded the computers. Furthermore, even when the systems were synchronized, it often led to malfunctions for unknown reasons. It was later discovered that this was due to the unpredictable behavior of Minovsky particles (their field) surrounding the psycommu’s operation. However, just why the particles behaved in such a fashion even now remains unclear.

　As such, the psycho-frame was devised to minimize these obstacles. This idea behind it was to fashion a large computer core with enough processing power to counteract the effects of Minovsky particles by integrating microscopic psycommu (metallic particle-sized computer units) into the cockpit frame and positioning it equidistant from the pilot.

A SYSTEM OF WONDER

　The psycho-frame system had proven itself to be more effective than anticipated. As well as being an extremely powerful psycommu, there were completely unexpected side effects confirmed.

　In some instances, a force field that even deflected mega particle beams was generated around the psycho-frame during its operation. This had already been confirmed to be caused by the abnormal behavior of Minovsky particles around the psycho-frame. However, the problem was that this anomalous behavior seemed to correspond to the pilot’s mental state.

　Furthermore, the intensity of the phenomenon appears to be proportional to the strength of the Newtype abilities, so in the case of Amuro Ray, it surprisingly caused the phenomenon of lifting half the mass of the asteroid Axis out of its orbital descent.

　This phenomenon is currently explained by a hypothesis known as the “Minovsky Resonance Force Field Hypothesis,” but it is just that, a hypothesis. It would appear the true investigation of such phenomena will have to wait for the result of future research.
