[FA-010-B Full Armor ZZ Gundam Exposition] The ZZ, which was developed from the old RX-78 and had firepower several times greater than conventional machines, faced issues due to the weaknesses of the joint parts and armor in its transformable mobile suit configuration. As the final battle with Neo Zeon approached, it underwent a full-tune upgrade to address these problems. This comprehensive enhancement included the addition of 12 extra armor plates, high-mobility thrusters focused on various joints, and various other weapon upgrades. Furthermore, as an option, it became capable of equipping a massive Hyper Mega Cannon.
FULL ARMOR ZZ DEVELOPMENT BACKGROUND
The MSZ-010, rolled out in 0088, was a mobile suit developed under the concept of enhancing the core block system from the old RX-78 and futher developing the docking and transformation mechanisms to give it firepower several times greater than conventional machines. The unit deployed into combat demonstrated performance far exceeding the developers’ expectations.
Yet, the inherent nature of the Nahel Argama, where it was deployed, diminished the necessity for the ZZ’s original characteristic – the docking and transformation mechanism. Consequently, when the ZZ was examined as a “mobile suit,” the weankess of the transformable mobile suit, such as the joints and armor, became an issue. Hence, as the decisive battle with Neo Zeon approached, a full-tuning upgrade was implemented for the ZZ in its mobile suit form.
UNIT EXPOSITION
While adding additional armor to a transformable mobile suit may seem counterproductive, the ZZ Gundam, which can hold its own against other mobile suits even in mobile suit form alone, can hardly be considered an overstatement if it were to be reborn as a limited combat mobile suit. A total of 12 additional armor pieces have been prepared, focusing on the various joints, and thrusters for enhanced mobility have also been added due to the increased body weight. The additional armor employs Gundarium composite and features a multi-layered spatial structure. In addition to serving as mere armor, the chest and left arm house missile launchers, and the abdomed is equipped with a high mega particle cannon.
The high mega particle cannon boasts the same output as the one in the head, but due to its simplistic attachment, it can only be fired once, given the burden it imposes. As a result, the propellant capacity for the additional thrusters has also been increased, both the thrusters and the propellant tanks. Furthermore, improvements have been made to the ZZ itself, with the backpack’s thermonuclear jet engines increased from two to four, enlarged missile pods, and enhanced leg and shoulder thrusters.
With this additional armor system, the ZZ becomes capable of extremely high mobility despite enemy attacks and possesses combat capabilities on par with, if not superior to, the late Neo Zeon mobile suite equipped with psycommu weapons. As an option, it can even be equipped with an ultra-gigantic hyper mega cannon.
ARMOR SYSTEM
■ ARM ENHANCEMENT PARTS
Each arm can be fitted with a total of four enhancement parts. The shoulder features a part housing a built-in thruster, while the forearm carries a part equipped with the same type of missiles as those carried by the Core Fighter. The shoulder also has the option of selecting a spray missile launcher.
■ ABDOMINAL ENHANCEMENT PARTS
The abdomen section has a single-shot High Mega Particle Cannon installed. Its energy supply comes from the generator in the backpack.
■ CHEST ENHANCEMENT PARTS
Just like the arms, it carries eight missiles for the Core Fighter, two AMA-13S missiles for a total of 10×2, and also includes built-in sensors for the missiles.
■ BACKPACK & HYPER MEGA CANNON
The backpack’s propulsion system, originally two normal jets + two nuclear jets, has been enhanced to four nuclear jets. In addition, the missile pod on the right side can be removed and replaced with a Hyper Mega Cannon, comparable to the main gun of a battleship. Even after the removal of enhancement parts, transformation is still possible while this cannon is equipped.
