The bulge located under the nose is the strike camera. The protrusion at the rear end of the left vertical tail fin is the rearward alert radar. Moreover, the slits at the rear, sandwiched between the vertical tail fins, serve as airbrakes and can open both upwards and downwards.
This is the Federation Forces high-altitude fighter designed for air defense. Developed as part of the Core Fighter concept, it bears the name of a Core Fighter variation. Hervic Company undertook the development, and it was officially adopted under the designation FF-6.
The prototype’s rollout is said to have occurred in the year 0062. However, considering the designation “FF-6,” it is more likely to have been developed after the FF-S3 Saberfish and just before the FF-X7 Core Fighter.
It had ambitious designs, such as adopting a dual-turbo engine, but it reportedly faced issues with output and reliability. Some believe the discrepancy between the prototype’s timeline and its official designation was due to the time spent resolving these problems.
It was armed with four 25mm machine guns and two air-to-air missiles. Despite its excellent close combat capabilities due to the dual-turbo engine, its limited air-to-air missile capacity made it lacking, and the 25mm machine guns were insufficient to compensate.
The most famous pilot of the Tin Cod was Lieutenant JG Texan Demitory, known for his autobiography “Knight of the Skies.” Due to his charming appearance, he was affectionately nicknamed “Lady Killer” by his comrades. Initially flying the Fly Manta combat bomber in the 288 Tactical Air Force of the Federation’s 6th Air Force, he was just an ordinary pilot. However, he started to shine after switching to the Tin Cod and became the ace of the First Tactical Air Force. During Operation Odessa, he shot down 34 enemy aircraft, including Dopp fighters. For this achievement, he was awarded the First Class War Merit Medal. Throughout the One Year War, he achieved a total of 301 enemy aircraft shot down, making him the second highest-scoring fighter pilot in the Earth Sphere, following Commander “Texas Black Devil” Samuela.
His presence serves as a testament to the performance of the Tin Cod aircraft.
