1.5 GEN MOBILE SUITS
In the early days of U.C.0116, the Oldsmobile air raids on the Frontier Side marked the emergence of the largest force of the former Principality Forces after the death of Full Frontal. With the arrival of a new warring states period in outer space, numerous colonial nations claimed to be the successors of Zeon, while Oldsmobile held its place as perhaps the last such entity, acting not as a national military but as terrorists. Their distinct line of mobile suits, known as the RF (Refined) Series, bore striking resemblances to the former Principality Forces Zaku and Gouf or were modeled directly after them.
This was not mere nostalgia; in the wake of the Mafty Uprising, a culture had emerged throughout the Earth Sphere that perceived the Zaku as a Cycloptic guardian of Spacenoids against the oppressive Gundam. Though the Federation government had eliminated the Zeon-esque design elements epitomized by the mono-eye following the Haman War, history’s irony was that these changes imbued the remaining Zeon remnants with an entirely different significance.
The Oldsmobile RF Series was characterized by designs heavily modularized according to universal standards. In other words, they designed machines that could be procured by combining off-the-shelf components used by the Federation Forces’s Jegan and Heavygun.
By the time of the Gryps Conflict, it was common practice to restore Gelgoogs using Nemo parts. Given the extreme interchangeability of parts in space machines (necessary for cannibalistic repairs during emergencies), it has inadvertently simplified the procurement of weaponry by terrorists. Tracing the origins of these parts, whether they are military or for mobile workers and hobby mobile suits, is virtually impossible.
Despite their 18-meter stature, the RF Series’ performance was on par with 20-meter-plus mobile suits like the Geara Doga and Gustav Karl. This was nothing less than a spin-off of small mobile suit development technology.
The Oldsmobile engineers did not seek to further downsize mobile suits beyond what had been done in the past. They believed that reducing their size to that of the One Year War era was sufficient, thus creating what could be called the 1.5 gen mobile suits.
This was a well-targeted concept for a guerrilla organization. While the RF Series was not an ultra-high-performance machine like the F Series or Denan Type, as long as they could match or surpass the Jegan Type J and Gustav Karl in combat, their strategic objectives could be achieved.

(Left) OMS-14SRF CHARLES GELGOOG This is the suit piloted by Charles Rochester during the First Illuyanka Fortress Capture Operation. It is a 20m-class machine equipped with a beam shield, boasting a high performance befitting a 1.5 generation mobile suit. The color scheme is presumed to be based on Bosch Weller’s suit.
(Right) OMS-06RF RF ZAKU The RF Zaku was deployed in the Second Oldsmobile War. The production capacity of the Mars base rivaled that of the Luna II arsenal, and it is believed that over 500 units of the RF series were produced. The RF series deployed in the Second OM War had high interchangeability in their movable frames, allowing them to be converted into RF Gouf specifications by changing the armor and armaments. This can be said to be an advancement of the hardpoint concept of the analyzed F90 (OMS-90R). It should be noted that there is also a theory that the model number of this machine is MS-06 RF.
FROM REPLICAS TO NEW MODELS
Since the resumption of Oldsmobile’s activities as a military organization in U.C.0121, the RF Series used were distinct from the earlier replicas, no longer strictly adhering to the same appearance or armament as the originals.
This shift can be attributed to the feedback of data from the captured F90 Unit 2, the increased demand for standardization as a military organization, and the support obtained from Buffo Aerodynamics (and the Crossbone Vanguard).
The RF Kampfer employed by Kitch Kitchener during the U.C.0116 assault on Frontier I represents an intermediate model between the later RF Series and the initial replicas. It was designated as the OMS-18ERF. The frame of this mobile suit appears to have been reused from the OMS-06RF.
The control system of this unit was equipped with a quasi-psycommu system developed at Axis, stimulating the weak Swessum cells of Oldtypes, allowing for all-range attacks, and an INCOM System, which proved effective against the F90III unit.
The RF Series technology has been open-sourced, and its dissemination continued throughout the Earth Sphere even after the end of the Oldsmobile War. Mass production would not be difficult if mobile worker production facilities are available.
Across various colonial states, it has become fashionable to deploy replicas of mobile suits that were active in the previous century, and they are becoming more widespread than the high-cost, maintenance-intensive second-generation small mobile suits. There are even theories suggesting that the Federation Forces are considering a scaling up of the RGM-122’s successor to a 16-18 meter class.
We, Amelia, are in need of stronger defenses against the proliferation of these 1.5 generation mobile suits among neighboring colonies.
