FRONTIER DEFENSE FLEET
While the Earth Federation was dealing with the post-war cleanup, the Neo Zeon had steadily accumulated power at one of their bases in the asteroid belt. Taking advantage that the Federation Forces lacked sufficient military strength to press forward into the asteroid belt, damage caused by territorial infractions by the Neo Zeon, such as attacks on transport ships, were incessant. It fell upon the Frontier Defense Fleet to prevent territorial infractions by the Neo Zeon and to monitor their movements.
We approached the operations area some 5 minutes after leaving the Birkenia (*1).
The data on the enemy units picked up by the patrol plane was linked to the GM II. Based on the data displayed one after another on the monitor, six units were identified as NMS-04 Marasai (*2), but no match could be found for one remaining unit, and it could not be displayed.
“Keith, Higgins and I will attend to our regular customers. I’ll escort the newbie.”
Given my order to be dispatched to AE after this operation, Roger’s words were the best gift I could receive.
To a pilot of the Frontier Defense Fleet, there was a trend where making contact with the enemy’s new model mobile suit was a better mark of prestige than increasing the number of ones kill marks.
(The main cause for this being that Neo Zeon’s main mobile suit at the time, the Marasai, were no match for the GM II in terms of performance.)
Giving thanks to the fact that I was blessed with wonderful teammates, as well as being able to make contact with a new model mobile in my final mission, I accelerated in order to challenge the enemy.
Kwon. The cockpit shook with light sounds of vibrations, and pleasant Gs racked my entire body.
A few minutes later, my GM II’s sights captured an image of a new mobile suit with a form that was incomparable to traditional models.

NOTATIONS:
1. The name of a Salamis-class space cruiser.
2. The story is slightly different from the TV series in regards to the deployment situation of mobile suits.
3. The book was published in U.C.0118. It was a sensational publication that exposed the Army’s secret project.
