HIDDEN BEHIND A VEIL OF SECRECY: THE NEWTYPE-USE GUNDAM F90
Monthly Mobile Machine magazine is brought to you, the ten billion fans of mobile machines in the Earth Sphere, with an authenticity free of bias, all from Side 2’s Amelia. Starting with this month’s issue, we’ll discuss some of the mobile weapons deployed on the eve of the Cosmo Babylonia Foundation War during the so-called “Second Oldsmobile War.”
We should point out here that we are different from “MS Journal” magazine, which was really just at the beck and call of Von Braun’s weak and feeble government. We intend to present history from an unbiased point of view based solely on the facts.
Unlike most of the mission packs developed during the same timeframe, the F90 N-type is a specialized unit for operating the F90I, an otherwise non-psycommu-compatible unit, as a Newtype-use mobile suit.
This mission pack, also known as the HULL FIGHTER (High Utilize Laying and Lead pursuiting), has its own transformation mechanism to turn into a manned space fighter, which can separate and dock with the F90.
The N-type has a built-in sub-generator similar to that of the V-type, and the particular model in operation after U.C.0116 is presumed to have been equipped with a 1500kW-class unit.
Once docked, the N-type is said to be capable of simultaneous use with almost all mission packs developed at the time, which can even be equipped without taking up any hard points. Only the backpack portion transforms to dock with the Hull Fighter. Some equipment, such as the B-type, could not be swapped out during field operations on account of the different standards with the backpack connection part, so it was believed to have been remedied by adding modules on board the ship. We should specifically mention that the combined equipment, along with the A-type, could have achieved combat abilities on par with that of a fifth-generation NT-use mobile suit.
The bit weaponry mounted on the Hull Fighter are called hilt funnels. This weapon is not just a scaled-down version of funnels from the 0100s, so it’s quite an ambitious weapon. It enables the beam cannon portion to be used as a beam saber, allowing it to penetrate the gap between the I-field and the beam shield to destroy its target. Initially, it was supposed to have the ability to form a beam barrier much like that of the RX-93. Still, the K-type mega beam shield was eventually deemed sufficient, so it was integrated as an offensive weapon.

(Left) When equipped simultaneously with equipment such as this, it’s denoted with an N followed by the initial letter of each pack. It was also intended to be equipped with psycommu-grenades. (Right) The Hull Fighter before docking. Dr. Guggenviger was dismissive of the unit’s concept as it would have compromised the F90’s nimble mobility.
What’s more, depending on the mission, it was able to be outfitted with missiles (both conventional and psycommu-guided), gun pods, and electronic equipment under its wings. Its aerial combat performance alone is estimated to have been on par with that of a Federation Forces orbital fighter.
The Hull Fighter utilizes Multiple Construction Armor (MCA), which is later used on the F91—namely, armor material that incorporates electronic equipment at the metallic particle level within a Minovsky cubic lattice structure, which includes the biosensor and psycommu.
As our astute readers will no doubt already be aware, yes, the Hull Fighter utilized psycho-frame technology, the very same that was supposedly sealed away as “Singularity One” at the time.
At the time, SNRI was accumulating such forbidden technology to counter Anaheim Electronics, and it’s even said that the F91 also used a psycho-frame in conjunction with a bio-computer.
So that begs the question of where this technology came from. Is it something that could be explained by the fact that SNRI recruited not only engineers from Anaheim and other corporations but also former Neo Zeon and Titans ones to join the company for mobile suit development?
Your author uncovered that the Jupiter Fleet originally developed the psycho-frame used by the N-type. There is also irrefutable evidence that an assemblyman from the Amelian Assembly was involved in the handing over of the psycho-frame from the Jupiter Fleet to SNRI. In our next issue, we’ll show you some amazing facts about the relationship between the Jupiter Republic Alliance and SNRI.
Until next time!
