Gundam AGE: Minor Update

I’ve updated our data page to reflect the official spellings of the characters names.

Update and Updates! [Editor-san-tachi’s!]

Well, I’ve got some good news and bad news. Good news is we are going to have a back-to-back release here at Zeonic within the next week or so, the bad news: server yet again. MasterCard didn’t send me a new credit card since mine expired back in April. This is going to be interesting. $40 for three months? Schweet. Anyways, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the release that we have in store for you all 😀 Rest assured at the rate we’re going with the series before these two volumes were complete, we’d be done in the year 2019. Hah!

EDITOR-SAN-TACHI’S: Those of you interested in editing/quality check, could you please send me an email again? Thanks!

The Traitor to Destiny

In Episode 8 of “The Traitor to Destiny”, the GM Kai Wagtail was shot down by a Marasai piloted by Ernest. This month, with the exception of the shoulder and leg portions of the Wagtail Unit, most of the parts have been replaced thus giving birth to a new machine! Check out the MSK-003 Wagtail II on the series page!

I’ve also updated some of the other information surrounding the series as well =)

Gundam the Origin [Section IV]

Just keep moving along… nothing of importance to see here. Trying a new way of doing things out here. We’ll see how long this format lasts before people start bitching about something 🙂

MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM THE ORIGIN
SECTION.IV Encounters in Space

Story & Art by: Yasuhiko Yoshikazu

Mechanic Design: Kunio Okawara

The final showdown. What is it that pushes these two men? Everything is being swallowed up in a world-destroying conflagration. The finale is in the next issue!

New Data Pages Mk-II

For today’s update, I’ve created pages for STAMPEDE –The Story of Professor Minovsky– as well as Gundam X ~Under the Moonlight~. You can find them in the manga section of the Database.

New Data Pages

In my sleepless boredom from the overnight shifts this week, I’ve managed to construct some new data pages for the website. I’m put up the basic info pages for the 08th MS Team and High-Streamer novel series. The 08th MS Team pages is essentially complete and probably won’t be fleshed out any more than what I’ve said on them, but I will definitely put some more info up on the High-Streamer page since there’s zero information out about it on the net. I’m not too sure on a couple character name romanizations but I’ll fix them later on. Until then, to view them click DATABASE above and look in the novel section 🙂

Mobile Suit Gundam École du Ciel

I’ve added an information page on École du Ciel to our database, for those that are interested. The series has recently picked back up in Japan, so it gave me an excuse to work on that particular portion of the website again 🙂 The story is definitely heating up! I wonder if it’ll be ending soon… *ponders* You can view the section here.

What Could This Be?

In light of recent news, I just though I’d leave this here for all of you to enjoy =) Until next time?

Zizagging flashes of light catch her attention. A panic stricken face of confusion overcomes her as a Rick Dom is torn apart by an explosion.

“THOMAS!!” she screams as a Zaku and yet another Rick Dom are taken out.

Her eyes frantically follow the trails of light attempting to identify the source of the explosions. She locks on.

“Bits?!”

Just as she realizes this her mobile suit comes under attack by them in a rapid-fire barrage of beam blasts.

“WHAT ABOUT THOMAS?!” she screams at the goliath mobile armor as it receeds into the colony bay firing a massive beam blast in her direction from one of it’s arm cannons.

“It’s falling? Is it the gravity of the colony?” she evades the blast but not before it blows a hole in the side.

Descending from the sky her mobile suit touches down in one of the residential area streets. Bewildered she cries out, “What?! There are still people in this colony?!”

Desperate she turns toward the mobile armor looming overhead, preparing to fire another deadly beam blast.

“No, don’t shoot!!”

But it was too late…

We’re Still Here? WTF?

Yeah… tell me about it.

First off, no… it wasn’t an April Fools joke. It appears that my wonderful host decided to just charge my credit card when I had it set for the hosting to expire. I’m not too happy about that because I’m now out $38 on my card. :/ So, it looks like we will be here until June I guess. Le sigh…

GUNDAM W: FROZEN TEARDROP

Just dropping by to slap up our planned cover art for the novel release:

Remember, you can head on over to our “RELEASES” section to read the prologue of this exciting edition to the Gundam W franchise! I apologize (not really) for taking so long with this, but it’s turning into a labor of love for me. I’m striving for the best possible translation and subsequent editing of this novel so that it can make up for the preconceived notions that people have surrounding some grossly biased and shipped translations and summaries they’ve read in the past. Like all of our releases, rest assured we shall set the record straight!

Gundam Wiki: Battle of the CopyPasta!

I was poking around the Gundam Wiki for some odd reason when I started noticing some of the odd titles that we have logged in our database. Granted, what we have here isn’t much… mainly just some information that I scrounged up on the fly and what not just to explain some base points to fans. Well, I decided to click around and discovered that a vast majority of entries contained information that was pretty much lifted verbatim from my website. Granted, I don’t really care in the long run, but the fact remains that credit wasn’t given to the original source.

This shit pisses me off.

I’ll keep this rant short and relatively to the point. I don’t slap up random things here and there for people because I have to, it’s because I want to. There’s a huge section of the Gundam world that most people don’t know about, and I’ve been aiming to fill some of those voids any way I can. I take the time and effort to find minute things out about the series that I have filling my shelves and I scour various Japanese sources that do a better job of tying loose ends together than I do so that I can attempt some form of comprehensive coverage. But, what I hate in the end is when people just take shit and slap it up in another public domain for others to see without a care in the world.

Research your own shit then. This site will never be a comprehensive source for everything Gundam (I wanted to do that eons ago), but it will be home to a niche crowd of smaller titles that very little is known about. If you wanna repost something, just ask. I’ll gladly allow you to. Hell, I’ll even tell you if and when I’ve changed something so information doesn’t conflict. =)

The Traitor to Destiny Manga Short

Chiming in with a rather odd release with no real value, I present to the masses the Advance of Zeta: The Traitor to Destiny manga short that ran in this months Gundam Ace. Enjoy.

Advance of Z: The Traitor to Destiny

I’ve overhauled this section of the site, adding some character information, mechanics and a summary for the first tankoubon of the series. Chapter summaries will follow in the near future. And, as you can see, I’ve also created a logo for the series. It’s not the best, but I guess it mimics the style you’d see over here. *shrug*

March Expiration

Howdy all,

No, this isn’t a request for donations. It’s merely an announcement. Given that we’ve been toddling along for nearly seven years now, it’s time to say farewell to the domain that is Zeonic|Scanlations. No, the group isn’t disappearing, but the website is turning off its lights and locking the door. We’ve received many generous donations in the years past which have continued to support the site, but alas me thinks it may be time to just say farewell to the site and have people just watch our twitter and tosho for releases and what not. It’s just not in the cards financially for me/us. 🙁

[STAFF POSITION] – Novel Editor

Greetings viewers of Zeonic|Scanlations!

It’s that time again! Seeing that a novel is something of a prized possession to me, it’s also a hell of a lot of work to edit. Therefore, we are looking for a person (or people) who have experience editing gobs of text to join our team for help with our novel projects. We have one editor (Martin) and I’d like to divvy up the work and get more eyes on it so that everything can be as seamless as possible. As I said, all eyes are on us now for a certain project so I’d like to make it shine. So without further adieu, the following are the talking points for the position:

  • CONFLICT: Figure out what the novel is all about. We’ll jot down a short summary of the chapter’s storyline and possible theme and we’ll need you to go through and mark anything that doesn’t make sense in regards to the storyline. Ignore all typographical and grammatical errors. This section is all about the conflict!
  • PACING: Given that this is being translated from Japanese to English, it is imperative that we accurately convey the pacing of the story. We don’t want anything shoveled in to quickly or too slowly. We’d like for the overall tone to stay relatively consistent throughout. Your task for this will be to mark places where pacing should be quicker or slower.
  • CHARACTERS: Are the characters well-developed and fleshed out in our translation? This doesn’t mean merely looking at their lines but through descriptions of the characters overall appearance and mannerisms.
  • VOICE: One of the most difficult tasks even as a translator is to develop a voice for the novel. The narrator for this provides a varying take on the situations progressing in this series so it’s vital that each one be conveyed accurately.
  • GRAMMAR AND TYPOS: The final task is to go through and correct all of the grammatical and typological errors that plagued the translation.

If you feel you meet these qualifications, please get in touch with me (deacky[at]gmail[dot]com) or feel free to post in the comment section below and we’ll be in touch =)

State of the Scanlations Address

Tonight, I want to begin by thanking everyone who visits this website and continues to support our releases by downloading, passing them along to others, seeding, etc. And as I mark this day, I’m also mindful that I have a lot of promises to keep to this year, and I hope that all of you continue to support this group and what it is trying to accomplish.

By now, it’s no secret that I’ve had my share of differences over the years. The comments towards us have been harsh, but we’ve fought fiercely in what we stand for. That is, however, a good thing. It’s what keeps us going. It’s what sets us apart from others who have tried and failed repeatedly. Recently, a member of the translation community took it upon themselves in a “butthurt” move to remove any and all translations they had due to criticism towards it. This, in part, was mainly a criticism from myself. Many people ask why we here at Zeonic|Scanlations take on SO many projects. In my mind, I have everything woven in an elaborate and grandiose fashion… but it comes out at a snails pace, unfortunately.

To digress, this came in part from my desire to pick up after Gunota. I started Gundam|News, because I wanted a reliable and accurate website to prevent any false information from spreading around on the net. This small belief is the core principle of Zeonic. It’s what I stand for. I hate bullshit information. I hate made up facts. I hate reading how people are under the impression that one thing happens when in fact it’s something else entirely.

I acknowledge that my work here is by no means professional. If anything it’s laughably amateur. Nonetheless, I strive for perfection in any way that I can. If I don’t know something, I research it. I ask people to give me a nudge in the right direction without telling me exactly what it means. When all else fails, it’s then I say “Hey, can you help?”. At the same time, I’m also critical of other translations. Why? I’m not really sure. A part of me is so caught up in things that I don’t realize how I come across sometimes. It’s probably why people read too much into what I write that I come off as an elite dickhead lurking on the net. Word choice means a lot, and unfortunately I come off a bit strong from time to time. Mind you, our work hasn’t been under the microscope all that much, so I’m sure it can be quite nagging. We did have an issue with Gundam 00V at one point that was completely mistranslated… and I deferred it off as a translator error not associated with me. I do tend to sweat bullets thinking about my work being critiqued, but alas when and if it were to come I’m sure I’d be just fine with it.

Nonetheless, I doubt the person whom I criticized will ever read this, it’s just something I feel I’ll say.

I’ll digress further on the matter in which I feel the need to criticize. This whole post and what not comes in light of a novel project we’re undertaking. Yes, it’s the Gundam W: Frozen Teardrop series. When information becomes available in Japan, I try my best to translate it for the folks over at AnimeSuki. This usually tides them over until someone else posts translations of the actual chapter. Well, the reason why I become so critical is when they read my stuff and then read something else in the translation chaos and confusion ensues. This mainly comes in part from hastily posted workings with promises to change things later. This is a huge no-no in every facet of translation. This is what causes problems. This is what causes misinformation. This pisses Deacky off to no end.

I believe I’ve noted five or six translation errors towards a particular individual and their aspirations to being a beloved project to the world. I think it’s only fair. Yes, I called them out on it. Yes, I specifically stated they were mistaken. Does that make me a troll? No. Do I have a right to do so? Me thinks. I am competing, or rather I “was” competing with them in a translation sense. Not to toot my own horn, but it saves a huge mess of a cleanup later on down the line.

So with that in mind, if you think something is fishy with our work, something that doesn’t look just right, tell me! If there’s a hair on the scan or a smudge in a bubble, I wanna know about it. What hurts us makes us stronger. I’m here to attempt perfection. It doesn’t happen, obviously (i.e. slow releases), but we do a better job than the official companies that produce material. This is, after all, quite sad. People who do this stuff for free should not be the ones who are flawless (sic) and consistent in their material. It’s not that hard to do, really.

This all in turn brings me to what we can do to speed up our group. Mind you, I intend to stick to the “7-11” project as best we can, but I’m looking for feedback from the community on this one. Yes, comments will be open. I’m going to also be searching for a new home soon. This domain, while relatively cheap, is running on thin ice. We’re set to expire again in March. I, unfortunately, haven’t been able to pay many bills myself thanks to wonderful cuts to my income so Zeonic is definitely going to be something that gets pulled. Sorry, but I have to keep my gym membership: gotta look sexy somehow 😉

Nonetheless, I enjoy doing this… despite the burden I place upon myself. I like introducing new things to fans, I like learning new things myself. Translating this stuff continues to challenge my mind and my language skills. That, and it also pushes my English skills to the dark side (I’m so sorry Martin. So very, very sorry).

So now is the time to act. Now is the time to stand up for the future. (Hail Zeon! jk!) The awakening of a new Zeonic will be triggered by the fans of the Gundam community, and we shall be a symbol of information for the people. (Oh I’m killing myself here)

We’re in a position where victory is within our grasp, and once again, our most cherished scanlations site will flourish. Rise, my people, rise! Zeon thirsts for the strength of it’s people.

Sieg Zeon, bitches.

Endless Waltz: 敗者たちの栄光 「堕天使の翼」編

A bit late with this considering I’ve been sitting on it for quite a while (sadly). Here’s the continuing adventures of Gundam Wing in manga form without anything added! Huzzah! Well, they’re reincorporating some Episode Zero material, but that’s about it. You can download the torrent here.

プロジェクト・フォルダ!

For those of you that wonder how I organize things here, I did a MS-DOS tree directory of the project folder! Happy gawking (yes, there is something in every folder)! Amazing!

“No, we’re totally doing it this year, I promise.”

Thanks, Knolly 😀

Greetings and Happy New Year, denizens of Zeonic|Scanlations!

As promised, I’m here to outline what we’re going to be doing for the 2011 scanlation year. This is kind of a haphazard plan that came to mine while I was sitting on the can the other day (kidding, of course), but I’m certain the goal is obtainable! But, we can only do it with YOUR help! Many of you have been very helpful over the course of the year (TatsuHobby being a major supporter), but we’re ready to surge back with a vengeance! So! With that in mind, I’ve created a little slogan to kick start out year and to outline what we hope to accomplish!

Zeonic|Scanlations 2011 Theme: 7-11

Yes, that’s so creative, isn’t it? What does it mean though? Well, we’re hoping to crank out seven projects over the course of the year! No, that doesn’t mean seven volumes and we’re done. It’s seven series, something you’ve come to expect from us 😀 HOWEVER! We only have five ironed out at this moment and they’re series you’ve been expecting from us for a while. The other two are still up in the air right now. But, part of the MASTER PLAN is as follows:

Char’s Deleted Affair: One volume per month.
Bande Dessinee: On hold because scans are no longer available.
Glory of the Defeated: Chapter 3-4 are available. May do this in chapter section batches. Not sure.
Steel 7: Yes, this is coming. I don’t think we’ll do it in a volume release, but more of a series batch like we did for Crossbone.

And then PROJECT NUMBER FIVE!!!

New Mobile War Report Gundam W: Frozen Teardrop!

Gundam Wing has always had a soft spot in my heart, which is why I’m so proud to be translating the sequel novel to the television series and Endless Waltz! So, without further adieu, I present to all of you the prologue, Silent Prelude, as our first release of 2011! Enjoy folks!
